Womanhoods #01
2021

Έξι θηλυκά αφηγήματα συνθέτουν ένα κοινό έδαφος βιωμάτων και επανε- ξετάζουν την κατάσταση του να είσαι γυναίκα. Ποια η σχέση του φύλου με το σώμα; Είναι το κορμί μας δοχείο ταυτότητας ή/και αναπόσπαστο κομ- μάτι του εαυτού; Πώς μετασχηματίζεται το σώμα; Ποια είναι τα όρια του; Το δέρμα; Ο χρόνος; Η μνήμη; Η σκέψη μέσω του χεριού; Οι επαναλαμβανόμενες αυτοματοποιημένες κινήσεις; Πώς ερμηνεύονται οι παραδόσεις που έχουν σχηματίσει τον γυναικείο έμφυλο ρόλο;

2021

Six female narratives compose a common ground of experiences that re-inquire womanhood. What is the relation between gender and the body? Is our corpus a container of identity and/or an integral part of ourselves? How does the body transform? Which are its limits? Is it the skin? Is it time? Is it memory? Is it a procedure of thinking through the hand, via repetitive automated movements? How do we interpret the traditions that have shaped the female gender?

Six approaches, each one from a unique point of view, become tangible through threads, fabrics and images. Materials that have traditionally been associated with femininity and the restriction of women’s activity within the boundaries of the house. Nevertheless, domestic craft and handiwork that were carried out individually or collectively—in gatherings—were also used as a refuge, a means of tacit resistance within a patriarchal environment. The exhibition Womanhoods brings forth space to reclaim these so-called “feminine” techniques in order to narrate and reinterpret the complexities and multiplicities of femininity.

Designed on the occasion of the group exhibition Womanhoods at Noucmas, June 2021.
